Havva is ten years old and she is in grade 5. Havva has two sisters at the age of 8 and 9. Her father, who lives in the village of Erzurum Karaçoban, died at the age of 26 due to a heart attack. Later her mother married again and Havva and her sisters had to stay with her grandmothers. Despite her success at school, it’s hard for Havva to continue school because of poverty.
Her class teacher introduced Havva to us. We visited her at her house. Havva’s favorite lesson is Science and she wants to be a dentist. Her sisters go to the same village school. Both are very succesful. Havva, the eldest child in the house, is helping her sisters with their homework and helping her grandmother at home. Havva’s teacher is very hopeful from Havva. Her teacher believes that if she can sustain this success, Havva can study at good universities and can do her dream job. However, as the elder daughter of the house, hopelessness is a serious threat to Havva’s future. For this reason, she needs support in the long run, education without obeying poverty, and be an example to all the girls in the village with the other 2 sisters.
